Ao Midori Biocontrol offers a low toxicity and environmentally friendly products selection for the Integrated Pest Management use.

Ao Midori Biocontrol it is involved in several investigation projects and developments on attractants and agricultural pest pheromones, in particular in the development of new attractants and management techniques using environmentally friendly products by using techniques such as mass trapping. • Attractants

The food attractants are substances that attract insects by confusing them with a source for feeding or egg laying.

These baits capture specially females, so its use in the traps is an effective method for the monitoring and management by mass trapping to combat the adults' insects' pests, reaching an effective level of management, keeping the insect population under the acceptable tolerance threshold.
Attractants are used basically in managements' techniques by mass trapping with the suitable traps. These methods do not leave residues or affect the beneficial insects, because they are, generally, specific.

  • Pheromones

The pheromones are chemical signals secreted outside by the living being, that constitute the main mean of communication in the arthropod, especially in the insects.

They can be detected over long distances, causing in the being who receives it a change in its physiology, biology or behaviour. There are different types of pheromones for different behaviour functions: sexual attraction, aggregation, alarm, dispersion, defence, etc.

During the past years, the use of pheromones has proved being highly effective for the monitoring and management of certain insect populations, in addition it has advantages of its safety for humans, wildlife and ecosystems compared to any other type of insecticides, as it has a high specificity and residue elimination.
The use of some of these pheromones, especially sexual, in the pests monitoring, becomes in nowadays an effective method for insects monitoring and for the direct population management by mass capture using traps or sexual confusion.
It is for this reason that Ao Midori Biocontrol has been involved in the production of some of these products, considering that a high quality of the active ingredients of synthesis according to its specificities are essential for the correct performance of the desired function.

    • Sexual pheromones

The sexual pheromones are used mainly for the monitoring or management of the flying of the specie, as well as sexual confusion techniques.

The monitoring is one of the main pillars of the Integrated Pest Management (IPM) programs and provides us very useful information about the following points:

      1. The insect identity identification and/or confirmation.

      2. The infestation level valuation.

      3. The monitoring of the Populations levels in the crops and warehouses (flight curves determination).

      4. Determining the moment to realize phytosanitary treatments, when these want to be done, in order to avoid unnecessary treatments and choose the optimum moment to achieve them.

      5. Valuation of the effectivity on the management techniques that are being used, whether they are treatments by phytosanitary products or managements techniques by pheromones, just as the sexual confusion techniques.

    • Aggregation pheromones

They are the ones that the beings use to approach and group together forming colonies.

In contrast with sexual pheromones, they attract both females and males, so they are very useful in mass trapping management programs. The curculonidae have a great economic importance.

    • Parapheromones

They are not actually pheromones but act like them: they are synthetic products related with the specie pheromones; they attract one of the sexes, mainly the males.

They can be used in surveillance programs (monitoring) and in mass trapping.

  • Traps and accessories

The election of the appropriate trap it is based on the pest type to supervise, the attractant (liquid or dry), pheromone (sexual, aggregation...), the application (monitoring, mass trapping), the crop type, etc.

The method of use and the trap density to be used are also specific in each case. The indications of use of every trap are a general guide that intends to provide the user a starting point for the implementation of its monitoring and/or mass trapping programs. The conditions and local practices can lead to the personalization programs.
