Ceratitis capitata monitoring and mass trapping management in citrus, stone fruit, pome fruits and other crops sensitive to this pest.
The Ammonium Ceratitis Attractant is a synthetic food grade attractant, highly effective for the management of the Mediterranean fruit fly Ceratitis captitata. It can be used both in monitoring population programs (monitoring) as in pest control programs (mass trapping). The food attractants have the advantage that capture mainly female (60-70%), for this reason they are very capable to keep population levels of this insect pest under the tolerance level.
This attractant, thanks to its special dry format, is highly effective. It has a great persistence and constant diffusion which allows extending its useful lifetime in the field and keeping the capturing level until its fourth month of installation. This way, with a single diffuser you cover the whole season, which together with the dry format becomes an easy use and handling product and reduces the setting-up and maintenance traps costs in the field. Due to be a dry attractant requires its use together with an authorized insecticide in the trap device.
The Ceratitis capitata mass trapping has demonstrated to be the most effective method for this pest management, and it is recommended in the integrated pest management (IPM) programs and in the ecological farming.
THE METHOD OF USE:
- Do not open or drill the attractant sachets.
- Use it with the MAXITRAP FLY CATCHER or the foldable CONETRAP FOLDABLE FLY CATCHER. Introduce it directly in the inside of the trap with an authorized insecticide, such as dichlorvos diffuser (DDVP) or treating the trap (preferably the inside of the lid) with authorized products under current legislation.
- Put the traps in a medium height of the tree (1,40-1,80 m), on the east or south face, a bit in the interior avoiding direct contact with the sun.
- The monitoring must be done during the early spring. Supervise the traps every week to determinate the pest presence, the population level and its risks. After each count remove the insects from the inside of the traps.
- For the mass trapping, put the traps 45 days before de fruit ripening. The traps must be kept during the whole farming until the fruit harvest and the disposal of possible residues.
- It is advisable to do a capture monitoring, to establish the critical points and carry out the appropriate correcting measures.
- For monitoring put 4-6 traps/Ha distributed in a strategic way around the parcel for supervising.
- For the management by mass trapping: put 40-50 traps/Ha in citrus, apple or pear tree, and between 70-80 traps/Ha in stone fruit trees, depending upon the population pest level, the crop density, and the size, shape and distance of the parcels to be managed. Reinforce with additional traps in those areas where the capturing is higher. In the case of really high levels of capturing you can reinforce the program with phytosanitary treatments, always with authorized products under current legislation and in a rational way.
- If there are high levels of infestation, some supplementary phytosanitary treatments can be done, always with authorized products under current legislation and in a rational way.
- It is advisable to remove the residue of the crops, especially the fallen fruit, as they may contain disause larvae that can generate infections the next season.
