Bactrocera oleae Monitoring and management by Mass Trapping in olive grove.
The AMPHOS-DACUS ATTRACTANT is a food grade attractant formulated in dry for the olive fly Bactrocera oleae management. It can be used both in monitoring populations programs (monitoring) as in mass trapping. The food attractants have the advantage that capture mainly female (60-70%), for this reason they are very capable to keep population levels of this insect pest under the tolerance level.
Is a new ammonium salts diffusor formulated in dry, capable to absorb the environment humidity, basically at night, to release during the day the vapour ammonium attractants (request form PCT/ES2014/07024). Its diffusion speed allows duration of more than 150 days, so with a single diffuser you can cover all season.
Is easy to work with and easy-to-handle; if you use it with the CONETRAP® trap, it presents similar capture levels to the diammonium phosphate in bottles ("Olipe" type traps), by which the placement and maintenance costs of the field traps become considerable cheaper at the same time that it facilitates the fly counting in monitoring programs.
The Bactrocera oleae mass trapping has demonstrated to be an ecological and effective method to reduce this pest populations and its management, and it is recommended as a tool in the integrated pest management (IPM) and in ecological farming.
THE METHOD OF USE:
Do not open or drill the attractant bags.
Preferably use the Conetrap® fly catcher. Fold the fly catcher following the manufacturer's instructions; introduce an AMPHOS-DACUS ATTRACTANT bag (preferably the inside of the lid) with an authorized product.
Put the traps in a medium height of the tree (1,40-1,80 m), on the east or south face, a bit in the interior avoiding direct contact with the sun.
The monitoring must be done during the early summer. Supervise the traps every week to determinate the pest presence and its riscs. After each count remove the insects from the inside of the traps.
For the mass trapping, put the traps by the end of June or beginning of July and maintain them until after the harvest and the disposal of possible residues.
It is advisable to do a capture monitoring, to establish the critical points and carry out the appropriate correcting sizes.
- For monitoring put 4-6 traps/ha distributed in a strategic way around the parcel for supervising.
- For the management by mass trapping: put 40-80 traps/ha depending upon the population pest level, the olive grow density and the parcel size. In big olive grow areas the traps density can be reduced to 20 traps/ha with significant efficiencies.
- If there are high levels of infestation, some supplementary phytosanitary treatments can be done, always with authorized products under current legislation and in a rational way.
- It is advisable to remove the residue of the crops, especially the fallen fruit, as it may contain larvae that can generate infections to the next season.
